Needle valves and distributors are two key components with complementary functions in instrument piping systems.
A needle valve, as previously described, is a precision shut-off valve. It relies on the precise fit between the conical needle tip at the end of the valve stem and the valve seat to achieve fine flow regulation or forced shut-off of the medium. Its core features are good sealing performance, high pressure resistance, and suitability for high-pressure, low-flow applications such as instrument sampling, draining, and pressure buffering. However, due to its narrow flow path, it is not suitable for high-viscosity fluids or media containing solid particles.
A distributor is a manifold component used to evenly distribute a single fluid medium into multiple output paths. Structurally, it typically consists of one inlet main port and multiple outlet branch ports, commonly in the form of a block-type body or tube-type connection. Distributors may have integrated shut-off valves or needle valves to allow independent on/off control of each branch. Their main functions are to simplify piping layout, reduce potential leak points, and ensure relative balance of pressure or flow across the branches.
Application Relationship: In instrument systems, needle valves are often installed directly on each outlet branch of a distributor to independently regulate and control multiple instruments (such as pressure gauges or transmitters) or sampling points. Together, they form a compact and efficient fluid distribution and regulation unit, widely used in analyzer cabinets, instrument panels, and heat tracing systems in industries such as petroleum, chemical, and pharmaceuticals.
