AB Worm Gear OperatorOverview

The AB worm gear drive unit is a compact right-angle power transmission terminal utilizing a high-precision planar double-enveloping hourglass worm gear set or ZC-type worm gear pair. It is designed for industrial applications demanding very high reduction ratios, moderate output torque, and self-locking capability – such as valve actuators, conveyors, hoisting equipment, packaging machinery, agricultural machinery, and small lifting devices. The housing is made of high-strength cast iron or aluminum alloy. The internal high-capacity worm gear pair features a worm made of 40Cr or 20CrMnTi steel (case-hardened to HRC50-55, ground and polished) and a worm wheel centrifugally cast from high-grade tin bronze (ZCuSn10P1). Through optimized tooth geometry and meshing parameters, the AB worm gear drive achieves total reduction ratios from 36:1 to 178:1 and output torque ratings from 750 N·m to 6,500 N·m, providing reliable long-term operation under frequent start-stop and low-to-medium speed conditions. The unit offers reliable back-self-locking, supports various mounting orientations and shaft arrangements, and accommodates standard motors, servo motors, or handwheels – realizing a true 4-in-1 integration of “high reduction, moderate torque, self-locking safety, and compact installation”.

1. High-Precision Worm Gear Set : Planar double-enveloping or ZC tooth profile. Worm material: 40Cr or 20CrMnTi, case-hardened to HRC50-55, ground to Ra≤0.8. Worm wheel: ZCuSn10P1 tin bronze, centrifugally cast. Load capacity is more than 30% higher than ordinary Archimedean worm gears.

2. Wide Ratio Range & Torque Coverage : Reduction ratio covers 36:1 to 178:1. Rated output torque from 750 N·m to 6,500 N·m – suitable for valve actuation, lifting, conveying, and other medium-duty applications.

3. Reliable Back-Self-Locking : Leveraging the friction angle characteristics of worm drives, reliable self-locking is achieved at ratios ≥36:1, effectively preventing reverse rotation – ideal for hoists, valve actuators, and rotary tables.

4. High Efficiency & Long Service Life : Transmission efficiency ranges from 70% to 85% depending on ratio. Gear teeth are run-in and phosphated, providing extended contact fatigue life with a design life of at least 15,000 hours.

5. Compact Modular Design : Topology-optimized housing with small footprint. Input/output interfaces conform to international standards, allowing quick adaptation to IEC motors or handwheels. Supports M1 to M6 mounting orientations.

6. Reliable Sealing & Long-Life Lubrication : Shaft ends feature double-lipped oil seals (FKM) achieving IP65 protection. Pre-filled with synthetic worm gear oil (ISO VG320 or 460) – maintenance-free for up to 10,000 hours under normal conditions.
